Robert Oliver Bird was born on September 7, 1875 and was educated at
Upper Canada College in Toronto. In 1901, Robert fell ill with typhoid. He
married Mary Miller in 1903. The couple had three children, Oliver
who died of typhoid while a student at university, Gwendolyn and
Henry. In
1904, he traveled to Philadelphia for a course in textile manufacturing.
Two years later in July of 1906, he and his wife as well as Mrs. Garrett
Miller (the mother of Mary) moved to Edmonton, Alberta where he
operated a hardware business. With a passion for
adventure, Robert took a mine surveying course to become
a prospector at the age of 80 years. The year of his death is not known.
