William Lister Bird was born on April 5,
1878. He was educated in Bracebridge at the
Bracebridge Public School, Upper Canada College in Toronto and took a
general electric engineering course at Peterborough, Ontario. On December 8, 1903, he married Eva
Stephenson of Bracebridge and was the father of three children,
Mildred Mary, William Henry Stephenson and Charles who died in
infancy. He moved to Fort William, Ontario and
worked for the Kaministiquia Power Company and, at retirement, was its
Vice President and General Manager. William took an active role in the
community and engineering profession. Over the years, William was
the president for the Fort William Rotary Club, Fort William Ski Club,
Fort William YMCA, Fort William Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian
Electric Light Association. He was a member of the Fellow American
Institute of Electrical Engineers, Fellow Engineering Institute of Canada
along with many other organizations. On
September 3, 1964, William died.
